Overview
This is a fully remote role where you’ll use community engagement and communications as organizing tools. You’ll put a human face on data, turn website visitors into advocates, and help build community power around social causes. This is a key position that combines storytelling, digital strategy, and grassroots mobilization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Movement Storyteller
• Create compelling and inspiring newsletter and social media content with narrative-driven posts that inspire action
• Design graphics and visuals using Canva that make complex topics clear, accessible, and shareable
• Build visual storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences
2. Digital Hub Builder
• Optimize the website to serve as an organizing and resource tool
• Create clear calls-to-action and resource pages that convert visitors into advocates
• Maintain calendars and information that help supporters stay informed and engaged
3. Coalition and Community Engagement
• Plan and coordinate high-impact engagement and mobilization events
• Lead communications for major campaigns and annual initiatives
• Coordinate event logistics including registration, guest communications, and promotion
• Process partnership requests and support related committees
4. Community Mobilizer
• Mobilize supporters to participate in advocacy activities
• Conduct research to inform recommended actions and talking points
• Turn followers and website visitors into active advocates
5. Operations and Administration
• Maintain core digital platforms and tools
• Coordinate meeting scheduling, minutes, and attendance
• Respond to general informational inquiries
• Support occasional additional tasks such as document editing and event setup
Skills/background needed:
• At least two years of experience in communications, marketing, coordination, or community organizing (training provided for entry-level candidates)
• Strong storytelling ability — you can turn data or personal experiences into content that moves people to action
• Comfortable using website platforms like Squarespace or similar content management systems
• Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms
• Experience with event registration platforms and CRM systems (or willingness to learn)
• Excellent written and verbal communication across diverse audiences
• Organized and able to manage multiple deadlines and campaigns simultaneously
• Genuinely interested in local government, nonprofit work, or community organizing
• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with a small team
• Self-starter who identifies what needs to be done and follows through from idea to execution
• Strong relationship-building skills and ability to connect people and organizations around shared goals
• Flexible availability for occasional evening or weekend events
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Contract length: Ongoing
Expected hours: Up to 20 hours per week
