Communications Writer – Entry Level Remote

We’re looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented writer to join our communications team. This is a role for someone who wants to do meaningful work, develop strong writing skills, and grow quickly in a supportive environment.

As a communications writer, you’ll work alongside experienced team members to develop and execute written communications across a range of formats. You’ll write and edit press releases, opinion pieces, research summaries, and media pitches — holding yourself to a high standard on every piece of work. You’ll be part of a team that values clear thinking, strong research, and the ability to explain complex topics in accessible language.

The best candidates are curious researchers who can learn about a new topic quickly, find the right angle, and communicate it clearly. You’re comfortable meeting deadlines, asking thoughtful questions, and taking ownership of your writing.

You’ll work remotely and report to an experienced manager who is invested in your development — with real opportunities to grow your skills and take on expanded responsibility as you build your experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce strong first drafts across a range of formats: press releases, opinion pieces, media pitches, talking points, and blog posts
  • Research topics thoroughly to inform your writing and communications strategy
  • Work collaboratively with team members to develop story ideas and angles
  • Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, working to tight deadlines
  • Edit and refine your own work to ensure clarity, accuracy, and impact
  • Support media outreach efforts by helping to identify and pitch story ideas to journalists
  • Contribute to a team culture that values feedback, continuous learning, and shared accountability

Skills/background needed

Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clear, compelling drafts across different formats. Excellent research abilities and comfort learning about new topics quickly. Organized approach to managing multiple deadlines and priorities. Friendly interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. Interest in education, workforce development, or social impact is helpful but not required — curiosity and a willingness to learn matter more than prior subject matter expertise.

Full training will be provided. No prior communications experience is required — we’re looking for people with strong writing fundamentals, reliability, and enthusiasm to develop their skills in a supportive team environment.
