About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Writer to develop clear, accurate documentation for commercial building products. This role involves creating installation manuals, technical data sheets, specification documents, quick-reference guides, and other materials used by architects, engineers, contractors, and installers.
You will translate complex product information, engineering drawings, and installation methods into documentation that combines written instruction with visuals, diagrams, and illustrations. This is a fully remote position with the flexibility to work from home.
What You’ll Do
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Produce and maintain technical documentation: installation manuals, product data sheets, specification documents, submittal packages, bills of materials, troubleshooting guides, and training materials
• Translate engineering drawings and technical information into clear written and visual instructions
• Develop documentation that balances text with photography, illustrations, diagrams, and other visual elements
• Collaborate with engineering, marketing, product development, and sales teams to ensure accuracy
• Work with product samples and technical specifications to understand installation methods and field applications
• Support the development of video-based training and instructional content
• Maintain consistent terminology, formatting, and version control across all documents
• Organize and manage a structured technical document library
• Identify gaps or conflicts in technical information and work with subject matter experts to resolve them
Skills/Background Needed
Essential experience:
• Strong technical writing experience in construction, building products, engineering, or manufacturing
• Solid understanding of construction terminology, drawings, assemblies, and documentation standards
• Demonstrated skill in creating technical manuals, diagrams, illustrations, and picture-based instructions
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, field-ready content
• Strong graphic design and visual communication skills
• Experience with document version control, revision management, and document organization
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to work effectively with engineers and cross-functional teams
• Comfortable reading and interpreting technical drawings
Preferred qualifications:
• Knowledge of commercial roofing, waterproofing, or building envelope systems
• Familiarity with construction specification standards and submittal documentation
• Experience reading architectural, engineering, or fabrication drawings
• Basic familiarity with CAD or design software
• Experience creating technical or instructional video content
