Roles: Teen Services Librarian

Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Teen Services Librarian to join our team. In this role, you will work with young people aged 12-26, their families, and caregivers to provide engaging programming, reference services, and community support. You’ll help connect teens with information and resources, develop collections, and partner with local organizations to create inclusive, youth-centered programs.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with young people and committed to serving all members of the community with respect and cultural awareness. No prior experience in a library setting is required—full training will be provided.
What You’ll Do
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Provide reference services and readers’ advisory to teen and young adult patrons in person and online
• Design, develop, and deliver engaging programs and activities for teens and young adults
• Work with community partners to identify local needs and co-create relevant programs and services
• Help maintain and develop collections that reflect the interests and needs of the communities we serve
• Support teens experiencing housing insecurity and connect them with appropriate resources
• Assist colleagues and the public with information requests and technology support
• Help create a safe, welcoming environment at all service points
• Collaborate with a team of librarians and library staff to support the Library’s mission
• Use data and community feedback to evaluate and improve programs
Skills and Background Needed
• Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an accredited programme
• State librarian certification (or ability to obtain it)
• At least one year of experience providing information services or customer service to the general public
• At least one year of experience designing and delivering programmes for teens and young adults
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with people from all backgrounds and experiences
• Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Windows environments and common productivity tools
• Experience with social media and online communication platforms
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving historically marginalized communities
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing community needs
• Ability to remain professional and calm when working with challenging situations
What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will have:
• Experience working with young people experiencing housing insecurity
• Experience supporting people navigating mental health challenges
• Familiarity with addiction support and harm reduction approaches
• Fluency in a language other than English
• Experience with library automation systems or similar technology platforms
• Enthusiasm for creating culturally responsive programmes and services

Schedule
This is a part-time position with a rotating schedule across two weeks. Shifts will include weekday and weekend hours, ranging from morning to evening. Specific schedules are subject to change based on library operational needs.
