Content Writer – Higher Education (Remote)

About the role:

We’re looking for a Content Writer to develop high-quality editorial content across multiple channels and formats. You’ll report to a senior communications leader and work as part of a collaborative marketing and communications team. Your assignments will be based on organizational priorities, and you’ll work across the institution to report, write, edit, and produce compelling content for websites, newsletters, digital magazines, donor communications, and other channels.

Your editorial focus will include teaching and research priorities, student experience and success, faculty expertise, research centers, and stories that demonstrate institutional academic and research impact. You’ll also provide significant support for donor and alumni communications, including storytelling, newsletters, fundraising materials, digital magazines, and other publications.

Working from editorial priorities established by your manager, you’ll collaborate with faculty, students, alumni, donors, subject-matter experts, and communications colleagues to identify sources, conduct interviews, develop stories, and ensure content is accurate, engaging, audience-centered, and aligned with organizational priorities.

You’ll also provide editing and editorial production support across the organization, helping maintain consistent standards for accuracy, clarity, style, brand alignment, and publication readiness.

About you:

You’ll have a background in communications, journalism, English, public relations, marketing, or a related field through formal education or relevant professional experience. You should have demonstrated experience reporting, writing, and producing high-quality public-facing content. Ideally, you can translate scientific, technical, academic, or complex information into clear and engaging content for general audiences.

Strong skills in interviewing, reporting, writing, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking are essential. You should have experience writing for multiple audiences, formats, and communications channels, and you’re comfortable managing multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. You’re able to receive editorial direction and feedback and revise your work effectively.

Experience with professional editorial standards and familiarity with content management systems, email publication platforms, or other digital publishing tools is a plus. Any background in higher education, science, research, alumni communications, fundraising, magazine or newsletter writing, or writing about scientific subjects for general audiences would be valuable.
