About this role
We’re looking for an entry-level technical writer to join our transportation planning and design team. You’ll create clear, accurate technical specifications and documentation that help shape safer, smarter transportation systems. Working closely with engineers and project managers, you’ll develop the written standards that guide construction and implementation of roadway improvements.

What you’ll do
• Create and maintain technical specifications and documentation for civil and transportation projects
• Interpret technical drawings and incorporate relevant details into written specifications
• Review and revise existing specifications to meet current project needs
• Work with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure clarity and accuracy
• Perform quality control checks on deliverables
• Calculate construction quantities and help estimate construction costs
• Prepare project reports, memos, and correspondence
• Support meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Learn and apply design codes and industry standards
• Develop proficiency with specification requirements for transportation clients
What we’re looking for
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical writing, or a related field
• 1-2 years of experience in technical writing, specification writing, or a related field (or equivalent)
• Professional Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) designation, or ability to obtain one
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Solid understanding of technical fundamentals and civil engineering basics
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Comfortable learning design and documentation software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools)
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Eager to learn and expand your skillset
• Valid driver’s license required

Physical requirements
This role is primarily office-based. You’ll sit regularly at a desk, use computers, and work with documentation. You may occasionally lift and move items up to 25 pounds. Close vision and the ability to focus on detailed work are required.
