Editorial Assistant – Hybrid

Overview

We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to senior editors who acquire books across fiction, non-fiction, memoir, science, and cultural topics. You’ll join a focused, author-centric team with a mission to publish diverse, forward-thinking books. Our titles have won major literary awards and built lasting relationships with readers worldwide.

What You’ll Do

Administrative support: Coordinate prep for seasonal meetings, manage title data, process scheduling and expenses, and keep everything organized.

Editorial support: Read and evaluate manuscripts, draft rejection and acquisition letters, prepare materials, conduct market research, create financial projections, and draft contract paperwork.

Author and project management: Maintain author files, review contracts and payments, monitor production stages, and keep departments aligned.

Content creation: Draft and update copy for titles, generate metadata, and conduct positioning research—all under close mentorship.

Collaboration: Attend team meetings, contribute ideas and research, take notes, and maintain project records.

Skills/background needed

College degree or 1+ year of equivalent work experience (such as bookselling, publishing internships, or relevant coursework).

Passion for fiction and non-fiction with knowledge of the publishing marketplace.

Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize under pressure and multitask effectively.

Detail-oriented, resilient, flexible, and patient approach to work.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Self-motivated problem-solver who enjoys collaborating within a small team and across departments.

No prior publishing experience is required—we provide full training and mentorship for motivated beginners who are passionate about books and eager to learn.

Contract length

Permanent, full-time position.

Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
