About the Role:
We’re looking for a content writer to join our communications team. You’ll create compelling stories that translate complex research and data into clear, engaging narratives for different audiences and platforms.
This is a hands-on writing role perfect for someone starting their career in content creation, journalism, or technical communication. You’ll work across multiple formats—from social media and web copy to press releases, email newsletters, video scripts, and long-form articles. All your work will be developed collaboratively with the communications team to support key messaging and goals.
What You’ll Do:
Collaboration & Story Development (30%)
• Work with the communications team to plan content calendars and align messaging with organisational priorities
• Conduct interviews with researchers, partners, and community members to uncover unique story angles
• Adapt and repurpose stories across multiple channels and formats
Writing & Reporting (70%)
• Research and synthesise complex data and technical information into clear, accessible writing
• Draft, edit, and optimise content for various platforms: websites, social media, video/audio scripts, print, and email
• Maintain high writing standards across all deliverables
Skills/background needed:
• Strong writing and editing skills—ability to adapt your tone and style for different audiences and formats
• Comfortable learning about scientific or technical subjects and translating them into everyday language
• Experience with or willingness to learn social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube)
• Portfolio of writing samples (blog posts, articles, social content, or school projects all welcome)
• Organised, collaborative approach to working with teams
Experience we’d love to see (but not required):
• Background in science writing, environmental journalism, or technical communication
• Experience writing for diverse platforms and formats
• Familiarity with content management tools or WordPress
Location: On-site position with occasional regional travel required
Contract length: Temporary
