About This Opportunity
This is a fully-funded, one-year writing fellowship designed to give you dedicated time and financial support to complete a writing project. You’ll receive a competitive stipend, housing, meals, and health benefits while focusing entirely on your craft.
As a Writer-in-Residence, you’ll live on-site at a boarding school community, where you’ll have the freedom to work on your manuscript while informally supporting and mentoring students interested in writing.
The Role
Your primary responsibility is completing your writing project. In addition, you’ll be available to:
• Interact informally with students interested in writing
• Support English classes and student literary organisations
• Share your experience and expertise with an engaged community of young writers
You must commit to being in residence whenever the school is in session (September through June).

What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will have:
• A writing project already underway that requires focused, uninterrupted time to complete
• Demonstrated literary skill and originality in their writing samples
• Personal qualities including dedication to craft, strong work ethic, integrity, and openness to community engagement
• Ability to thrive in a small-town, residential school environment
• Willingness to mentor and support student writers
We welcome writers across all genres—fiction, literary non-fiction, poetry, and drama are all eligible. If you write non-fiction, your work should be aimed at a general audience and reflect your intention to pursue a professional writing career.
Important Notes
• During the fellowship, you cannot hold any other full-time or part-time job
• You cannot be actively enrolled in any degree programme at a college or university
• You must be authorised to work and based in a location where this is possible
• All application materials must be your own original work—no AI-generated content
How to Apply
Your application must include:
1. Current résumé (PDF format preferred)
2. Statement of Interest (500–750 words, PDF format preferred)—explain how this fellowship would enable you to complete your manuscript, your current progress, and why this opportunity is right for you
3. Writing Sample or Manuscript Excerpt (up to 20 pages, 12-point type, 1-inch margins, double-spaced except for poetry, PDF format preferred)
4. Proof of work authorisation
Your statement and manuscript should be submitted as anonymous PDFs with no identifying information in headers, footers, file names, or titles. Include your name and contact details only in the application form itself.
All applicants must successfully complete a criminal background check and driving record check.
Contract length: One academic year (September–June)
Location: On-site residency required
