We’re looking for an enthusiastic writer to join our newsroom and produce sports coverage across multiple platforms. You’ll research, write, and report on athletic events, working alongside editors, photographers, videographers, and broadcast staff to deliver accurate, engaging stories.
About the Role:
This is an on-campus position where you’ll develop real journalism skills in a fast-paced student newsroom environment. You’ll cover sporting events for print, digital, and broadcast platforms, write game recaps and previews, create athlete profiles, and deliver live or recorded reports. You’ll attend editorial meetings, meet publication deadlines, and collaborate with a creative team to produce quality multimedia content.
Essential Duties:
• Cover sporting events for print, digital, and broadcast platforms
• Research, write, and edit sports stories, game recaps, previews, features, and athlete profiles
• Deliver live or recorded sports reports and on-air segments as assigned
• Maintain accuracy and ethical journalism standards in all content
• Meet assigned deadlines and participate in editorial meetings
• Attend regular production meetings and maintain minimum 8 hours per week on-campus office hours
Skills/background needed:
• Interest in sports journalism and basic knowledge of athletics
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours
• Strong deadline management skills and ability to handle multiple assignments
• Willingness to learn print, digital, broadcast, and multimedia journalism techniques
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Experience with photography, video, audio, or social media is a plus but not required
• No prior journalism experience necessary—full training provided
Location:
On-campus, based at the workplace. This role requires you to work on-site to cover events and participate in newsroom operations.
Contract length:
Hourly, ongoing
Rate:
Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application
Time Commitment:
Minimum 8 hours per week on-campus during business hours. Additional hours for event coverage, including evenings and weekends. Regular training sessions and publication deadline work required.
