About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and patient tutor to help students develop strong writing, reading comprehension, and communication skills. You will provide one-on-one and small-group instruction to students across different grade levels, helping them build confidence in writing fundamentals like brainstorming, organizing, drafting, and revision.
This is a welcoming role for those new to tutoring or teaching—full training and support will be provided to help you succeed.
What you’ll do
• Deliver small-group writing instruction covering brainstorming, outlining, paragraph structure, thesis development, transitions, and revision strategies
• Support students with grammar, mechanics, vocabulary, and sentence fluency
• Help students with school writing assignments and projects while encouraging independent thinking
• Provide constructive, encouraging feedback using clear rubrics
• Track student progress and communicate updates with parents and staff
• Create a supportive, motivating learning environment that builds student confidence
• Maintain professionalism and punctuality
Skills/background needed
• Strong written English skills, with a solid grasp of grammar and composition
• Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt your teaching to different learning styles
• Patient, dependable, and positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working with students of varying abilities
• Experience tutoring, teaching, or mentoring (preferred, but not essential)
Preferred experience
• Familiarity with common school writing formats (narrative, persuasive, expository, research)
• Experience with timed essay writing or test preparation
• Experience supporting English language learners
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple students’ learning plans
