About the Role: As a Reading Tutor, you’ll provide personalized one-on-one tutoring to students in their homes. You will help students with daily learning activities, offer encouragement, and deliver tailored instruction based on their individual learning needs and goals.
Details:
Format: In-person tutoring in local positions available.
Schedule: 10 hours a month, 2 sessions a week for approximately 1 hour per session.
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Skills/background needed:
Fluent in both English and Spanish (required)
Experience or familiarity with supporting students with learning differences and individualized learning plans
Knowledge of foundational literacy instruction, including phonics, sight words, decoding, blending, and sound segmentation
Ability to support early reading development through clear, step-by-step instruction
Experience teaching or supporting handwriting, fine motor activities, and written language development
Patient, engaging, and able to provide consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement
Comfortable using visual supports, sentence starters, graphic organizers, and scaffolded writing strategies
Familiarity with supporting students who receive additional services such as speech, occupational therapy, or special education support
Ability to create structured, interactive lessons that keep students engaged
Creative and flexible in tailoring lessons to student interests to increase motivation
Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with students and families
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personalized reading instruction focused on phonics, sight words, decoding, blending, and sound segmentation
Support the development of foundational reading skills through structured, hands-on learning activities
Reinforce reading skills through guided practice and opportunities to apply skills in real texts
Assist with handwriting development, fine motor coordination, and written expression
Use sentence starters, visual word banks, and scaffolded writing activities to help students develop independence in writing
Support students in organizing and expressing ideas through structured written responses
Implement engaging instructional strategies that match the student’s learning style and strengths
Incorporate hands-on activities, technology-based learning, and interactive lessons to increase participation
Track progress, provide feedback, and adjust your teaching approach as needed to support continued growth
Maintain a supportive, patient, and encouraging learning environment that builds student confidence and independence
