Communications & Event Coordinator – Part Time, Entry Level

About the role

We’re looking for a creative, organised person to help plan and coordinate community events and outreach activities. In this part-time position, you’ll work with different departments to bring people together through memorable experiences—from organising special events to managing the day-of details that make them run smoothly.

You’ll be the central hub connecting different teams, supporting public celebrations, and helping to create meaningful connections with the community. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your event planning and communication skills in a supportive, welcoming team.

The ideal candidate is adaptable, solution-focused, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities. You’ll balance detailed planning with flexibility when last-minute changes arise, and you’ll bring fresh ideas to how we engage with the public. As part of this role, you may attend events outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What you’ll do

• Coordinate and attend public outreach and community events• Organise employee events, parades, and other special community celebrations• Act as day-of coordinator during events to handle logistics and ensure smooth execution• Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, vendors, and community members• Develop timelines and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines• Request and schedule department staff assistance for internal and public events• Track metrics and gather data to measure event success and impact• Prepare records and reports related to events and activities• Provide support with social media and special projects as assigned• Assist with clerical tasks for the outreach team• Attend meetings as needed• Perform other related duties as required

Skills/background needed

No prior experience is necessary—we provide full training. However, prior experience in event management or community outreach is a bonus.

You should have:• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines• Good communication skills, both written and verbal• A collaborative approach and ability to work well with others• Flexibility and adaptability when priorities shift• A proactive, solution-focused mindset• Basic customer service experience or comfort working with the public• A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Contract length

Seasonal, part-time position. Maximum 20 hours per week on average. Schedule flexibility is available.
