This is an entry-level position perfect for someone looking to start a career in emergency communications and public safety support. No prior experience in this field is required—we provide full training to get you up to speed.
The Role:
As a Communications Officer, you’ll be the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls. You’ll receive information from callers, assess situations, and dispatch the appropriate help. You’ll work in a busy communications center using computers and two-way radios to coordinate responses, monitor security systems, and keep detailed records of all incidents and interactions.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Answering both emergency and routine calls, gathering information and dispatching appropriate personnel
• Using computer systems to track unit locations and manage communications
• Monitoring security cameras, alarms, and access control systems
• Entering data and maintaining accurate records and documentation
• Coordinating with other departments and external agencies when needed
• Performing other duties as assigned
This is a shift-based role supporting 24/7 operations, with the primary shift being evening (7:00 pm to 7:00 am). You may be required to work holidays and occasional overtime.
Skills/background needed:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Comfort using computers and learning new software systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to stay calm and clear when handling stressful or emergency situations
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
• Willingness to work shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly
Prior experience in communications or public safety is a plus, but not required. We’ll provide all necessary training and support to help you succeed in this role.
