About the role:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Communications Specialist to join our team and help shape how we connect with the public through media relations, content creation, and strategic communications. You’ll play a key role in developing media releases, identifying newsworthy stories, coordinating media opportunities, managing public outreach, and supporting crisis communications efforts.
This is a full-time, on-site position where you’ll work with a supportive team in a positive work environment focused on community impact and agricultural advocacy.

Your key responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts and news outlets to position the organization as a trusted resource
• Write, edit and distribute press releases using standard media platforms
• Coordinate media interviews for leadership and stakeholders
• Pitch relevant topics and content to journalists and media outlets
• Monitor media coverage and track earned media results
• Develop communication and media plans aligned with organizational goals
• Create and maintain an editorial calendar based on strategic priorities
• Draft and edit media materials including press releases, talking points, messaging documents and FAQs
• Support brand initiatives, campaigns, events and cross-functional communications
• Assist with crisis communications and organizational reputation management
• Conduct public relations workshops on topics such as media relations, social media and messaging
• Manage photography for events, edit images and upload to online platforms
• Assist with event planning and coordination as needed
• Provide proofreading and research support on assigned projects
• Support award programmes and recognition initiatives
• Assist with website updates and maintain event documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/background needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field
• 2+ years of experience in public relations or communications (entry-level candidates with relevant background welcome)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and similar tools
• Understanding of media relations and journalist needs
• Ability to write, edit and proofread clear and compelling content
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Public speaking and presentation abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to work on-site at the primary location
Training and support:
