What to Expect
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to work alongside engineers and other team members to document manufacturing processes and equipment operation. You’ll be responsible for ensuring technical writing work is completed on time and to the highest standards.
The ideal candidate will have some experience or strong interest in industrial or manufacturing environments. You’ll capture information through notes, recordings, and photographs, then transform this into clear Manufacturing Instructions, visual aids, training checklists, and maintenance instructions. Photography experience is a bonus but not required.
You’ll have a passion for teaching others and achieving excellence through clear instruction and problem-solving. You’re self-motivated, able to navigate multiple competing priorities in a dynamic environment, and eager to learn on the job. This role may develop into a leadership position, potentially overseeing a small team of writers.
What You’ll Do
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Compose instructional documents on manufacturing topics by working step-by-step with engineers
• Take notes and photographs to capture details for new documentation
• Maintain consistent style and formatting using templates
• Clearly communicate issues and questions during documentation drafting
• Work directly at production sites to capture details in real time
• Maintain document history and manage version control
• Manage multiple overlapping projects at different stages
• Contribute to overall process improvement
If this role develops into a leadership position, you may also be responsible for interviewing and hiring writers, providing training and professional development, coordinating team work, and tracking operational metrics.
What You’ll Bring
• Experience or demonstrated ability to create clear process documentation that communicates concepts and instructions effectively
• Ability to translate verbal information into clearly written procedures
• Photography skills (still and motion photography, macro features, file management, and image editing) or willingness to develop them
• Experience with technical specifications for manufacturing equipment is a plus
• Experience reading mechanical drawings is a plus
• Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Strong listening and observation skills
• Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and presentation software
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Contract length: Full-time, ongoing.
