Overview
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation that supports engineering, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance activities. In this role, you’ll work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and project teams to translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. You’ll also conduct procedure walkthroughs in production and operational environments to validate content and identify opportunities for improvement.
This is a full-time contract position, and you’ll work on-site with our client in Newport News, Virginia. While your day-to-day responsibilities will be managed at the client location, we provide ongoing support, resources, and benefits as your employer. This position is anticipated to last through the end of 2026.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including equipment manuals, operating procedures, process descriptions, maintenance guides, and training materials
• Conduct procedure walkthroughs and field observations to verify accuracy and ensure documentation reflects current operational practices
• Work with engineers, supervisors, and subject matter experts to gather technical information and capture process details
• Review existing documentation and recommend improvements to enhance clarity, consistency, and usability
• Organize and interpret technical data from multiple sources to create comprehensive documentation
• Ensure all documentation meets company standards, regulatory requirements, and quality guidelines
• Conduct proofreading and quality checks to verify technical accuracy and completeness
• Support document version control and maintain document repositories
• Help develop documentation templates and style guides
• Coordinate with teams across the organization to ensure documentation supports project milestones
Skills/background needed
• Minimum of five years of experience developing and maintaining technical documentation in manufacturing, engineering, or other technical environments
• Demonstrated experience creating operating procedures, work instructions, maintenance manuals, and other technical publications
• Experience conducting procedure walkthroughs or field observations to verify accuracy
• Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation
• Strong editing, proofreading, and grammar skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with document control systems and revision management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
