Technical Writing Manager – Remote

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Writing Manager to lead our documentation team and strategy. In this role, you’ll blend hands-on writing with team leadership, mentoring writers while defining how we document complex technical products for customers and partners.

You’ll be responsible for creating clear, user-friendly documentation that helps customers successfully onboard and use our software products. This includes writing user manuals, help files, integration guides, API documentation, and FAQs. You’ll translate complex technical information into content that works for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers through regular feedback and career support• Define documentation strategy, including tool selection, style guides, and information architecture• Act as the main connection between engineering, product, and support teams to ensure documentation fits into the development process• Manage project priorities and team workload to meet deadlines without compromising quality• Create and maintain documentation standards and style guides across all projects• Work with version control systems (Git) and Markdown-based documentation workflows• Transform complex technical material into clear, accessible documentation for engineers, product managers, architects, and leadership• Write technical documentation for APIs, SDKs, and integrations• Create architectural diagrams and supporting descriptions that explain complex ideas• Interview subject matter experts to understand products and systems in depth• Collaborate daily with engineers, product managers, and architects to develop and maintain high-quality documentation• Use data and metrics to understand how well documentation performs and identify areas for improvement• Maintain and update documentation management systems

Skills/background needed:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent military experience• At least 10 years of experience writing technical documentation for software products• At least 4 years of experience managing and mentoring teams• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Markdown and Git• Strong ability to explain deeply technical content in clear, user-focused ways• Experience collaborating with developers to turn technical content into understandable documentation• Comfortable writing in a formal technical style (active voice, consistent tenses, appropriate tone)• Experience with Agile software development processes is a plus• Knowledge of data management technologies is helpful• Any experience in the financial services industry is a bonus
