About the Role
This role manages web content workflows and oversees the intake, editorial review, prioritization, coordination, production, and publication of web pages, event listings, campaign landing pages, and related digital content. You’ll review, edit, structure, produce, and publish web content for clarity, accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with institutional standards. The role is both editorial and operational, requiring you to coordinate with internal teams to ensure all public-facing web content is timely, accurate, and useful.
The successful candidate will be a strong writer and editor, highly organized, and able to manage a high volume of deadline-driven requests. This role requires independent editorial judgment, sound prioritization, and the ability to coach colleagues on content best practices.
What You’ll Do
Web Publishing and Editorial Work (70–80%)
Manage the day-to-day workflow for website content requests, including event listings, web pages, landing pages, and related digital content. Triage, prioritize, track, and resolve incoming requests from across the organization using sound judgment to balance deadlines, priorities, accuracy, and available capacity.
Review and edit content submissions for clarity, accuracy, completeness, style consistency, accessibility, and alignment with web best practices. Determine when content is ready for publication and when additional information or revision is needed.
Build, format, update, and publish approved web content in the content management system using established templates, metadata standards, image requirements, accessibility guidelines, and brand standards. Write, edit, and produce newsletters using email marketing tools.
Translate complex information into clear, accessible, engaging digital content that supports audience understanding and action. Conduct quality assurance before and after publication to ensure pages display correctly, links function properly, and information is accurate.
Coordinate with internal teams to resolve content questions and ensure public-facing information is accurate and complete. Maintain visibility into request status, publishing timelines, and dependencies, communicating clearly with stakeholders about deadlines and next steps.
Coaching and Standards (10–15%)
Coach internal colleagues on web writing, content management system best practices, accessibility, metadata, and content standards. Maintain and improve documentation, checklists, templates, and workflow guidance for web publishing. Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to forms, templates, and processes.
Workflow Improvement (10–15%)
Use a systems-oriented approach to improve the efficiency and consistency of web publishing workflows. Partner with colleagues to support improvements to content management systems, workflow updates, and publishing processes. Support content audits and routine maintenance to keep web content accurate and current.
Skills and Background Needed
Required
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, digital media, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of two years of experience in web content production, editorial workflow, digital communications, content management system publishing, or a similar role.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills. Experience building, editing, and publishing content in a content management system such as WordPress, Drupal, or a comparable platform.
Demonstrated ability to manage detailed work, competing deadlines, and requests from multiple teams with sound judgment. Strong editorial judgment and the ability to adapt complex information for public audiences.
Working knowledge of web accessibility, SEO, metadata, mobile-first content practices, and user-centered web design. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Systems-oriented mindset, including the ability to identify workflow issues, maintain documentation, and recommend practical improvements. Ability to work diplomatically and collaboratively with colleagues across departments.
Preferred
Experience in a museum, library, cultural institution, university, nonprofit, or mission-driven environment. Experience with Drupal or comparable platforms.
Experience supporting web content for events, exhibitions, public programs, ticketed experiences, or institutional campaigns. Familiarity with web analytics tools or Google Search Console.
Familiarity with digital asset management systems, metadata workflows, and image rights practices. Experience creating documentation or training materials for internal teams.
Familiarity with web accessibility standards. Experience supporting the implementation or improvement of digital tools, workflows, or content processes.
