About the Role:
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to prepare, edit, and maintain technical specifications for construction and infrastructure projects. You’ll work on detailed documentation that ensures construction specifications are accurate, complete, and compliant with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
You’ll collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and other professionals to develop specifications that support various project types. This role involves working with specification software and industry-standard guidelines to produce clear, consistent technical documentation.
What You’ll Do:
• Prepare, edit, and maintain technical construction specifications using industry standards and specification software
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project managers to gather information needed for specification development
• Review and update project specifications to ensure consistency with codes, regulations, and project requirements
• Develop specification sections for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and specialty construction work
• Ensure specifications are coordinated with drawings, technical reports, and other contract documents
• Perform quality control reviews to identify conflicts, omissions, and consistency issues
• Maintain specification templates and documentation libraries
• Support project teams during design reviews and document preparation activities
• Prepare revisions and updates in response to design changes and regulatory updates
Skills/background needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Communications, or a related field
• Experience preparing technical specifications for construction, infrastructure, or facility projects
• Experience with specification software and industry-standard specification systems
• Strong understanding of construction documentation standards and technical specification development
• Excellent written and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with electronic document management systems
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred:
• Experience with federal design and construction programs
• Familiarity with different project delivery methods
• Knowledge of construction materials and engineering disciplines
• Knowledge of federal acquisition requirements
• Certification in technical writing or construction specifications
• Experience with infrastructure recovery or facility restoration projects
