We’re seeking an entry-level Acquisitions Editor to join our Fiction team. In this role, you’ll work closely with editorial, design, and marketing colleagues who care deeply about story craft and serving readers well. You’ll help shape which fiction voices and stories we bring to our audience next, managing projects from proposal through publication and building relationships with authors and agents along the way.
What You’ll Do
Manage fiction titles from acquisition through publication, coordinating with Editorial, Design, and Marketing teams at every stage. Build and maintain relationships with authors and agents, handling communication on deadlines and manuscript feedback. Evaluate manuscript proposals for quality and marketability, making recommendations on which projects to pursue. Research publishing trends and reader demographics to inform which stories and authors we invest in. Guide manuscripts from acceptance through development, working directly with authors to strengthen content and prepare promotional materials. Represent assigned titles in team meetings and attend industry events to connect with prospective authors and agents.
Skills/background needed: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Marketing, Business, or a related field. Experience reading widely and strong writing skills are essential. You’ll need to be organised, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple projects independently. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are important, as is the ability to make sound judgments under pressure. Experience with word processing software and spreadsheets is helpful. Previous publishing experience is a plus but not required—we provide full training to get you up to speed.
Contract length: Permanent, full-time
Location: Hybrid. After an initial onboarding period, you’ll have flexibility to split your time between working from home and our office location.
