Role: Content Writer specializing in local news and community reporting
About the role:
You’ll write engaging news content focused on local government, public policy, and community issues. Your work will cover how decisions by public officials affect people’s daily lives and neighbourhoods.
You’ll track developments across local government agencies and produce a variety of content including breaking news, explainers, accountability reporting, and public service journalism. Focus areas include housing, growth, infrastructure, public safety, transportation, climate resilience, and neighbourhood change.
What you’ll do:
• Write clear, engaging news stories for multiple platforms
• Research and report on local government and civic issues
• Produce breaking news coverage and alerts
• Create explanatory and investigative pieces
• Develop accountability journalism on community issues
• Work with editorial teams to meet deadlines
Skills/background needed:
• Strong writing and communication skills
