About the role
We are looking for entry-level court reporters to join our team. You will record and transcribe verbatim accounts of court proceedings using modern reporting software. This is a fully remote position where you’ll work from home, supporting the judicial system by creating accurate legal records.
What you’ll do
• Record verbatim minutes of court proceedings using real-time reporting software
• Transcribe proceedings in proper legal form and meet court deadlines
• Read back portions of proceedings when instructed
• Identify speakers and note introduction of exhibits and evidence
• Handle various case types including civil, criminal, family law, and juvenile proceedings
• Attend training sessions and continuing education opportunities
• Maintain professionalism and discretion in all interactions
Skills/background needed
• Knowledge of legal, medical and administrative terminology
• Strong command of grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation
• Ability to take dictation at 220 words per minute
• Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute
• Ability to write and read back real-time dictation on demand
• Minimum 96% translation accuracy in real-time reporting
• Proficiency with transcription software and court reporting equipment
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Patient, tactful and courteous demeanor
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
Education & experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited court reporting programme
• One year of courtroom experience as a certified court reporter
• Current state certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter
• Real-time reporting certification or comparable demonstration of real-time ability
