Seeking an entry-level Court Reporter to join our judicial team. In this role, you’ll create official written records of court proceedings and prepare transcripts for legal documentation. While this position requires certification and experience with court reporting, we provide a supportive environment where you’ll develop your skills as part of our established judicial operations.
About the role: You will attend court and other proceedings, using specialised equipment to record testimony and activity accurately. You’ll prepare transcripts of court proceedings according to standardised format, review them for accuracy, and ensure timely filing. Additional responsibilities include maintaining records of transcripts and appeal notices, responding to transcript requests, and collaborating with team members to meet court scheduling needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Attending court and other proceedings and using stenographic or voice reporting equipment to create official verbatim records
- Reading back transcripts during trials or other proceedings upon request
- Preparing transcripts according to standardised format and legal time requirements
- Reviewing, certifying, and filing transcripts with the court clerk
- Maintaining and organising court reporter notes and records
- Responding to transcript requests, including those related to appeals
- Researching and verifying technical, legal, and medical terminology as needed
- Operating office equipment including transcription machines and computer terminals
- Collaborating with other court reporters to ensure court needs are met
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/background needed:
- Current certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter (required)
- Knowledge of court shorthand reporting principles, practices, and techniques
- Understanding of legal record-keeping practices and procedures
- Familiarity with basic legal, medical, and technical terminology
- Strong written English skills including spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Ability to use transcription equipment and computer systems
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team
Other requirements:
You will be required to pass a background check including fingerprinting. This is an in-person, on-site position that requires daily work at the courthouse location.
