About This Role:
We’re looking for an entry-level editorial professional to support the daily operations of a peer-reviewed academic journal. You’ll work with the managing editor to oversee manuscript submissions, coordinate the peer-review process, perform developmental and copy editing, and help promote published research to a global audience of scholars.
This is a hands-on position where you’ll gain real publishing experience. No prior editorial background is required—full training will be provided. You’ll manage the journal’s book review programme, organize editorial team meetings, maintain web pages, and liaise with authors, reviewers, and production partners.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Co-manage the online peer-review process for research manuscripts
• Perform developmental editing and proofreading of academic articles
• Create and implement workflows for the book review programme
• Maintain journal web pages and collaborate on quarterly issue production
• Organise editorial team meetings and offsite events
• Handle administrative tasks including author contracting, data reports, and confidential manuscript management
• Promote published research across relevant channels
Skills/Background Needed:
• Bachelor’s degree
• At least 3 years of editorial, publishing, or related writing experience
• Ability to read, understand and summarise academic research
• Strong editing, proofreading, and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage confidential information
Preferred:
• Background in academic editing or publishing
• Familiarity with social sciences research
• Master’s degree in social sciences, English, communications or a related field
