Position Overview
We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant to support the management and development of a professional publication. This is a remote role perfect for someone looking to break into publishing or editorial work. You’ll work closely with senior editorial staff and learn the full spectrum of what it takes to run a quality publication—from managing submissions to coordinating reviews and connecting with authors and readers.
This role offers hands-on experience in editorial decision-making, content curation, peer review coordination, and strategic publication growth. You’ll be the bridge between authors, reviewers, and the publishing team, and you’ll develop real skills in communication, organisation, and professional publishing standards.
Core Responsibilities
Content & Editorial Support
Help oversee content selection and assist with developing the editorial calendar. Work with senior editors to identify and invite authors for high-quality contributions. Support the growth of published content and help track publication milestones.
Peer-Review Management
Manage the day-to-day manuscript submission and review process using our online platform. Screen new submissions for completeness and scope alignment. Assign manuscripts to appropriate reviewers and track their progress. Coordinate communication between reviewers and authors, ensuring constructive and timely feedback.
Author & Reviewer Relations
Respond to author and reviewer inquiries. Help build and maintain a network of expert reviewers and editorial contributors. Support special issues and feature columns.
Promotion & Growth
Help represent the publication to the professional community. Support promotional initiatives and track readership metrics. Assist in identifying opportunities to expand the publication’s reach and impact.
Operational Support
Ensure all content meets style and formatting guidelines. Deliver text, illustrations, and references to production on schedule. Help maintain ethical standards and compliance with publishing best practices.
What You’ll Need
Education & Background: A bachelor’s degree or relevant professional background in business, finance, insurance, or a related field is preferred. Any experience working in publishing, academic journals, or professional publications is helpful but not required—we’ll provide full training.
Skills:
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Drive is helpful. Comfort learning new online platforms and systems. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while working independently and remotely. A collaborative mindset—you’ll be supporting senior editorial staff and coordinating with authors and reviewers.
Experience: You don’t need prior editorial experience to succeed in this role. If you have worked on publication projects, managed content, coordinated with external contributors, or supported any kind of professional or academic work, that’s valuable. Most importantly, you should be eager to learn how professional publications work and be committed to supporting quality content.
Why This Role
This is an ideal entry point into publishing and editorial work. You’ll gain hands-on experience managing a real publication, develop relationships with professional authors and experts, and see firsthand how editorial decisions shape a publication’s direction and impact. Full training will be provided, and you’ll work closely with experienced editorial leaders who are invested in your development.
Work Arrangement
This is a fully remote position. You’ll work from home and communicate with the team via video calls, email, and team chat apps. The role averages 10–15 hours per week, offering flexibility around your schedule. There may be slightly higher initial hours while you’re learning the systems and processes, but this will stabilise quickly as you settle in.
If you’re interested in publishing, enjoy supporting quality work, and want to develop real editorial skills in a remote environment, we’d love to hear from you.
