Editorial Director – Digital Audience & Production Remote

Role Summary:

We’re seeking an experienced Editorial Director to lead our digital audience strategy and oversee newsroom digital production across all platforms. In this critical leadership role, you’ll drive how journalism is transformed into engaging digital experiences that grow reach, deepen engagement, and build reader loyalty.

Reporting to senior leadership, you’ll own and evolve the operating model for audience and digital production, bringing together content teams, platform specialists, and a 24/7 central production desk into a cohesive, high-performing system. You’ll oversee a sophisticated organization spanning editorial areas, enterprise planning, and expertise across web, apps, newsletters, video, social media, and emerging platforms, ensuring every major story is executed with clarity, speed, and impact.

You’ll be accountable for portfolio-wide digital performance, including growth in loyal users, repeat visitation, engagement depth, and conversion into newsletters and owned channels. You’ll work as a strategic partner to content leaders, shaping digital growth priorities, championing key projects, and making data-driven decisions about audience reach and engagement.

Central to this role is building a modern, scalable operating system for digital journalism. You’ll design and refine workflows that make coverage data-informed, visually distinctive, and aligned with organizational priorities. You’ll lead a disciplined culture of experimentation, standing up testing programmes for formats, distribution strategies, and audience journeys, and integrating AI-assisted tools into daily production in ways that strengthen quality, speed, and efficiency.

As a senior newsroom executive, you’ll lead, inspire, and develop a high-calibre team of managers, editors, producers, and platform specialists. You’ll set a clear vision, translate it into concrete operating standards, and build an inclusive, performance-driven culture grounded in candour, coaching, and accountability. You’ll ensure that audience insight, platform intelligence, and journalistic ambition come together in a unified strategy.

• Lead the full audience and digital production structure, including content teams, platform specialists, and central desk operations
• Maintain cohesive view of the entire portfolio and resolve prioritization questions between teams and platforms

• Ensure teams execute against agreed strategies in fast-moving scenarios
• Partner cross-functionally to align audience priorities with business objectives
• Monitor editorial standards from an audience perspective, ensuring consistent brand voice and platform strategies
