About This Role
We are looking for an Elective Instructor to teach engaging, hands-on courses to high school students in a pre-college academic programme. This is a part-time position focused on helping students develop academic and social skills across subjects like creative writing, media arts, study skills, financial literacy, career exploration, and more.
What You’ll Do
As an Elective Instructor, you will:
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons that promote student learning and personal growth
• Create a positive, respectful classroom environment where students feel safe to take risks and achieve their goals
• Set and communicate high expectations for student behaviour and academic performance
• Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance and achievement
• Communicate regularly with programme staff about classroom needs and student performance
• Work with diverse student populations, using teaching methods tailored to different learning styles
• Support students in developing skills needed for success in high school, college, and beyond
Skills/Background Needed
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Two years of teaching experience in an elective subject or closely related field
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
• Basic knowledge of current technology
• Strong classroom management and organisational skills
• Collaborative approach to working with staff and community members
Nice to Have
• Master’s degree in your elective area or a related field
• Three or more years of teaching experience
• Experience with student-centred, project-based learning approaches
