Overview:
This is an entry-level position perfect for someone starting their career in customs and import operations. You’ll work from home processing and submitting customs documentation for cargo clearance, helping ensure shipments reach customers on time. No prior experience is necessary – we provide full training.
Position Summary:
As a Customs Documentation Writer, you’ll handle the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for inbound cargo clearance. You’ll work with a supportive team, interact with customers to confirm delivery details, and learn how international freight operations work from the ground up. This role offers genuine insight into supply chain logistics and the opportunity to develop expertise in a growing field.
Key Responsibilities:
• Receive and review documentation to input and transmit data for cargo release• Follow established procedures for each customer on data requirements for customs entries• Use reference materials to identify correct tariff classification details on commercial invoices• Work with team members and your supervisor on entry tasks and clearance exceptions• Organize your work to track file status through every phase of the customs clearance process• Confirm release details with customers through standard communication channels• Monitor key performance indicators for import operations• Track and trace shipments and coordinate with freight partners on shipment availability• Arrange pickup and delivery coordination with logistics providers• Handle accounting processes including invoice preparation and payment processing• Complete additional tasks as assigned by your supervisor
Skills/background needed:
• High school diploma or equivalent• 0–2 years of experience in import operations (or willing to learn from scratch)• Comfortable working in an office environment at a desk• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel• Strong organizational and time management skills• Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail• Good problem-solving skills• Ability to communicate professionally with customers and team members via phone, email, and in writing• Reliable and detail-oriented
