Entry Writer – Freight & Customs Clearance, Entry Level

Overview:This Entry Writer position involves preparing and submitting customs documentation to facilitate the timely clearance of incoming cargo and delivery to customers. You’ll work as part of a dedicated team, serving as a customer advocate and providing excellent support throughout the import process.

About the role:No prior experience is necessary—we provide full training on all customs procedures and systems. You’ll learn to review shipment documentation, input data accurately, and coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth cargo release and delivery.

Key responsibilities:

• Review and process documentation to input and transmit shipment data for customs clearance• Follow standard procedures for each customer’s specific entry requirements• Use reference files to identify correct tariff information on commercial invoices• Collaborate with team members and supervisors on entry tasks and exception handling• Track shipment status through every phase of the customs clearance process• Confirm release details with customers using established communication methods• Monitor performance metrics for import operations• Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and warehouses to confirm shipment availability• Arrange freight pick-up and delivery with trucking companies• Handle accounting tasks including invoice issuance and payment processing• Complete additional duties as assigned

Skills/background needed:

• High school diploma or GED required• No prior import or customs experience needed• Comfortable working in an office environment at a desk using computer equipment• Strong organisational and time management abilities• Good problem-solving skills• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy• Professional communication skills with customers and colleagues in person, by phone, and via email• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and ability to learn new software quickly• Comfortable occasionally lifting and carrying office materials (up to 20 pounds)• Full training provided on all systems and procedures
