About the role
We’re looking for a Financial Writer to create engaging content about markets, economics, and investing for our daily newsletter and website. You’ll write articles on stocks, the economy, earnings, and related topics—work that’s read by millions of people each month who are building wealth.
This is a writing-focused role. You’ll spend your day researching, writing, and editing—not in meetings. If you love financial markets and want to publish substantial work regularly, this could be the right fit.
What you’ll do
Website articles: Write and edit news pieces on stocks, the economy, earnings, and crypto for our site. Help maintain our daily publishing schedule.
Daily newsletter: Write sections of our daily newsletter (published weekdays at 7:30 am ET). Cover the full newsletter when the senior editor is unavailable. This means some early mornings.
AI in your workflow: Use AI tools like Claude and GPT to research faster, draft more cleanly, and check your own work. You’ll get better at this over time. Everything that publishes must sound like your own writing—our readers can tell the difference.
Voice and style: Write in clear, plain English that sounds like a story, not a legal filing. Our readers are people trying to build wealth, not finance professionals. You’ll receive direction on our style early and often, and we expect you to master it within a couple of months.
Whatever the day needs: Long-form pieces, time-sensitive follow-ups, and urgent stories. Small team environment means versatile people are valued.
Who you are
You don’t need to be a finance expert on day one. You do need to genuinely enjoy learning about markets and have the ability to pick things up quickly. A background in finance is helpful but not required.
You can explain money and markets in language that normal people understand. Two or more years writing about markets, business, or economics is ideal. If you have less experience but your writing samples are excellent, apply anyway and show us.
You use AI tools daily and you’re honest about what they’re good at and what they’re not. You can spot AI-sounding writing, and you understand that a model being confident isn’t the same as being accurate.
You’re fast and careful at the same time. High volume doesn’t scare you and it doesn’t make you sloppy. You take editing well—feedback doesn’t need to be repeated. You communicate proactively; you mention concerns before deadlines slip, not after.
Nice to have (but not required): Financial industry credentials, published bylines at finance outlets, experience with analytics tools or email platforms.
Your first 90 days
Weeks 1-2: You’ll hand-write one newsletter article a day until you’ve completed ten. This is how everyone on the team learns our voice—it’s the fastest method.
Day 30: You’re carrying a real share of daily article volume. Your work goes live without rewrites.
Day 60: You’re writing newsletter sections independently and can cover the full newsletter when needed.
Day 90: You’re trusted with any story assigned to you, and you’re bringing us story ideas we hadn’t considered.
You’ll report to the senior editor on a small content team (three people at most), so your impact is visible immediately.
Work location and schedule
This is an in-person, on-site role in our office. We’re flexible when life happens—illness, emergencies, unexpected situations—but this is not a remote or hybrid position. Monday to Friday. The newsletter publishes at 7:30 am ET and markets open at 9:30 am, so mornings start early. Market news doesn’t always stop at 5 pm.
