We are looking for a travel writer to create original, engaging stories about outdoor destinations and travel experiences. You will be responsible for developing story ideas, researching locations, and writing articles that help readers plan trips and discover new places to explore.
As part of our growing team, you will work directly with our editorial team, pitch and develop your own assignments, and help shape the voice and direction of our platform from the beginning. This is a great opportunity to build a portfolio of published travel writing while working flexibly from home.
Responsibilities
The Travel Writer will have the following duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Develop story ideas and work with the editorial team to build an approved topic list before each assignment
- Write original articles on outdoor activities, hiking and trail guides, parks, seasonal events, and travel planning
- Produce practical, service-focused stories that help readers plan trips, including details such as access, cost, timing, and difficulty level
- Deliver clean, accurate copy on agreed deadlines
- Revise pieces as needed through the review and approval process
- Supply supporting photography where possible
- Contribute ideas on coverage gaps and topics worth pursuing as the platform grows
Skills/background needed:
Travel writing experience is helpful but not required. What matters most is a clear, warm, and engaging writing voice, strong time management skills, and the ability to work independently. You should be comfortable conducting research, interviewing sources, and delivering polished work on deadline. Photography skills and familiarity with travel and outdoor platforms are a plus, but full training will be provided.
Contract length:
Part-time, Contract-Freelance. This starts as per-article freelance work with real potential for growth. As the platform expands, there will be opportunities for additional assignments, expanded coverage areas, and ongoing columns. We are committed to growing our team from writers who prove themselves in these early months, and we will prioritise internal candidates for future full-time and permanent roles.
