We are seeking a Grant Writer to help identify and secure funding that will allow organizations to expand their programs, reach more communities, and increase access to high-quality educational opportunities.
This is more than a writing position. We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can research funding opportunities, identify strong funder matches, develop a grant pipeline, and write compelling proposals that communicate educational and community impact.
What You’ll Do
Grant Research & Prospect Development
Research local, regional, state, and national grant opportunities in youth education, arts, and community programming. Identify foundations, corporations, government agencies, and organizations whose funding priorities align with the mission. Develop and maintain a prioritized grant prospect database and funding calendar. Evaluate opportunities and recommend which grants to pursue.
Grant Writing
Write letters of inquiry, grant proposals, applications, and funding requests. Develop compelling narratives that communicate organizational mission and measurable impact. Work closely with leadership to gather program information, budgets, outcomes, and supporting materials. Customize proposals to individual funders rather than relying on generic applications. Assist with grant budgets and supporting documentation.
Funding Strategy
Help develop a diversified, long-term funding strategy. Identify new foundation, corporate, government, and community funding opportunities. Research sponsorship opportunities that complement programs. Track submissions, deadlines, decisions, and follow-up. Assist with grant reports and funder stewardship. Help build a sustainable pipeline of prospective funders.
Roles: Grant Writer, Funding Development Specialist
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Contract length: Flexible, approximately 5–10 hours per week. Open to consulting or project-based arrangements.
Skills/background needed:
Excellent research, writing, and storytelling skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to deadlines. Ability to independently identify appropriate funding opportunities. Experience developing grant budgets and funding requests. Ability to translate programming into measurable outcomes. Comfort working independently and collaborating with organizational leadership. Experience with nonprofit grant writing is valuable. Any background in education, youth development, or community programming is a plus. Full training will be provided.
Location: Fully remote – work from anywhere with an internet connection.
What Success Looks Like
In your first several months, you’ll develop a clearly organized grant prospect pipeline, create a prioritized list of funders aligned with organizational programs, build a comprehensive grant calendar, write strong customized grant proposals, identify new foundation and corporate prospects, and help increase opportunities to fund and expand educational programming.
