Summary:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, versatile writer to join our team on a full-time basis. You’ll bring creative approaches to daily coverage, enjoy working with multimedia, and have a passion for researching and delivering compelling stories to readers every day. No prior professional experience required – we provide full training.
What you will do:
• Present stories in an interesting, accurate and fair manner for publication
• File daily stories, features, photos, and videos as needed
• Stay in contact with key sources and develop new sources
• Collaborate with editors on coverage priorities
• Work well under deadline pressure
• Conduct interviews in a friendly and professional manner
• Ensure spelling, grammar and syntax are accurate and correct in stories
• Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
• Experiment with new digital tools and platforms
What you will bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or relevant professional experience
• Enthusiasm for news reporting and writing
• Ability to shoot video and create multimedia content
• Comfortable using social media and digital platforms
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong writing, organizational and story structure abilities
• Understanding of web, mobile and print platforms
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional shift work and out-of-hours coverage
Rate:
Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
