We’re looking for writers and editors to join a communications team supporting an important public health mission. You’ll work alongside subject matter experts, medical professionals, and leadership to create clear, accurate, and compelling written communications that inform audiences and support vital work.
About This Role
This posting represents potential future opportunities as client and project needs develop. We’re building a pipeline of writers and editors who could be a strong fit for embedded communications roles. Because these opportunities depend on future business needs and project requirements, we may not have an immediate opening when you apply.
Depending on your strengths and experience, you may work in one of two tracks:
Writer Track – developing feature stories, long-form content, leadership communications, and public affairs materials
Editor Track – managing the editorial review process and ensuring written communications meet the highest standards for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and compliance
You’ll work closely with public affairs leadership, medical professionals, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders. These positions are on-site, five days per week.
What You’ll Do
Writer Opportunities
Depending on the specific project, you may:
Develop and manage editorial calendars for print and digital communications
Lead feature stories from initial concept and research through interviews, writing, multimedia coordination, and publication
Identify compelling story ideas related to clinical advancements, research, patient experiences, and organizational priorities
Conduct thoughtful, sensitive interviews with patients, families, clinicians, personnel, and subject matter experts
Write and edit feature articles, news releases, web content, leadership messaging, speeches, and other communications
Apply professional journalistic standards and writing style guides
Collaborate with photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and other communications professionals
Support media relations activities, including media inquiries, interviews, and briefings
Craft messaging for internal and external stakeholders
Build strong relationships with subject matter experts and communications contacts
Editor Opportunities
Depending on the specific project, you may:
Manage the full editorial lifecycle for written communications
Review, edit, and proofread articles, reports, web content, leadership messaging, and other materials for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and consistency
Ensure content complies with professional style guides and applicable regulations
Conduct fact-checking and source verification, including review of medical and technical information
Work closely with subject matter experts to validate content
Coordinate feedback and revisions among authors, subject matter experts, and leadership
Track multiple documents through complex review, revision, and approval processes
Develop and apply organizational editorial and style standards
Manage editorial calendars and competing deadlines across multiple authors and projects
Prepare finalized materials for senior leadership review before public release
Skills/background needed:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field
Professional experience in writing or editing (we encourage applicants with any relevant background – full training provided)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good command of grammar, punctuation, and professional writing standards
Organized, proactive, and adaptable approach to managing projects and deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
Ability to work with sensitive information with discretion and judgment
Willingness to work on-site, five days per week
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare communications, federal communications, or other regulated, high-visibility environments
Experience in journalism, communications, editing, or technical writing
Experience managing editorial calendars and multiple projects with competing deadlines
Experience working directly with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders
Experience translating complex, technical, or medical information into clear, accessible communications
Experience managing work that requires high accuracy and attention to detail
For writer track: demonstrated experience in interviewing, narrative storytelling, feature writing, and long-form journalism. A portfolio may be requested.
For editor track: demonstrated expertise in substantive editing, copyediting, fact-checking, and managing complex editorial review processes
