Position Description:
We’re looking for a Multimedia Journalist to research, write, and report on news stories across a variety of topics including politics, economy, environment, social issues, lifestyle, and human-interest stories. You’ll develop stories with local and regional appeal and work both independently and collaboratively with a creative team.
This role combines writing, video production, and community engagement. You’ll gather information through interviews, research, and event attendance, then present your findings through written articles, video content, and social media. Full training will be provided to help you develop your skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
• Write clear, concise copy following standard style guidelines and meet daily deadlines
• Conduct interviews and gather information through research and public records
• Attend news conferences, public meetings, and community events to cover stories
• Build and maintain contacts with local community members, officials, and organizations
• Shoot, edit, and produce video content for news stories
• Create graphics, charts, and visual content to illustrate your stories
• Upload news content to websites and manage social media updates during live events
• Work collaboratively with photographers, editors, and other team members
• Stay informed about current events and respond to breaking news as needed

Work Environment:
This role operates both in the field and in a professional office setting. You’ll regularly travel between locations using a vehicle and transport video and photography equipment. You’ll use standard office equipment including computers, phones, and filing systems. The office environment can be open and moderately loud.
Physical Demands:
This position requires regular talking and listening. You’ll frequently stand, walk, and use your hands to handle equipment. You’ll occasionally sit, climb, or bend. You must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 10 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Good vision (close and distance), color perception, and the ability to focus are essential.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full-time position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on news coverage needs.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected for story coverage.
Skills/Background Needed:
• Experience or demonstrated aptitude in multimedia journalism, writing, video production, and reporting
• College degree in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Familiarity with editing software and design tools
