Summary:
We are seeking an ambitious, resourceful and curious reporter to cover and serve diverse communities. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, genuine curiosity, a talent for people-centered reporting, and enthusiasm for journalism that engages with and reflects local communities.
You will get to know many communities — including military, LGBTQ+, Indigenous and immigrant communities, as well as groups focused on everything from outdoor activities to cooperative housing. This beat is as rich, expansive and exciting as you make it.
What you will do:
• Report on communities — the issues that matter most to them, the people doing inspiring work, and how policy impacts them
• Develop trust and sources within and around communities you cover
• Pursue in-depth stories, prioritizing proactive reporting and staying ahead of developing news
• Stay informed on local and national news and what it means for the communities you cover
• Meet daily and long-term deadlines while managing multiple projects
• Cover breaking news and assist on major stories as assigned
• Collaborate with colleagues across different beats, as well as with photographers and visual journalists

• Strong writing skills and the ability to clearly present complex topics in a compelling way
• Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for understanding the priorities and perspectives of the communities you cover
• Collaborative spirit and comfort working with data journalists, researchers and visual storytellers
• Commitment to holding power to account and producing journalism that serves diverse communities
• A creative approach and appetite for experimentation in storytelling
• Bonus: fluency in languages additional to English
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Location: Remote position with occasional in-person meetings and assignments. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for work travel. Flexibility for shift work and coverage outside normal business hours.
