We’re looking for an ambitious, resourceful and curious reporter to cover communities and produce impactful journalism. You’ll develop sources, pursue enterprise stories, and engage with diverse communities to uncover the issues that matter most to them.
This is a fully remote role perfect for someone eager to build a career in journalism with strong writing skills, genuine curiosity about people and communities, and a passion for storytelling that reflects real-world impact.
What you will do:
Report on community issues, the people doing inspiring work, and how policy shapes and is shaped by the communities you cover
Develop trust and sources within communities through consistent, thoughtful engagement
Pursue in-depth stories, staying proactive and ahead of breaking news whenever possible
Stay informed on local and national trends and their relevance to your beat
Meet daily and long-term deadlines while managing multiple projects
Cover breaking news and assist on major stories as assigned
Collaborate with colleagues, photographers, researchers and other storytellers to bring stories to publication
What you will bring:
Strong writing and reporting skills with an ability to identify compelling story ideas
Genuine curiosity about communities and their priorities, with a drive to understand diverse perspectives
Collaborative spirit and comfort working with data visualisations, researchers and multimedia journalists
Ability to explain complex subjects clearly and shape stories creatively
Commitment to holding power to account and producing journalism that serves communities
A creative, inclusive mindset and appetite for trying new approaches
Bonus: Fluency in languages other than English
Skills/background needed: Strong writing ability, reporting experience or demonstrated interest, source development skills, ability to meet deadlines, comfort with digital tools and collaboration platforms
