About This Role
We are looking for a Scientific Writer to support a research institute’s scholarly and mission-driven work. In this role, you will produce high-quality institutional writing including grant proposals, technical policy briefs, research reports, and publications. You will work with faculty, researchers, and internal teams to create writing that meets rigorous academic standards while remaining clear and accessible to diverse audiences including funders, policymakers, and the general public.
This is a fully remote position with flexibility to work from home. You will report to leadership and collaborate closely with faculty and team members to deliver polished, professional writing across multiple formats.
Key Responsibilities
• Research, draft, edit, and produce technical policy briefs and reports on specialized topics for funders and public audiences
• Search literature, compile literature reviews, and synthesize complex research into clear, policy-relevant documents
• Revise scientific manuscripts and research papers for specialist audiences, ensuring accuracy and proper citation of sources
• Review and edit public-facing communications (newsletters, website content, press materials) for scientific accuracy and consistency
• Draft and manage grant proposals and funding applications for external funders, working with team members to translate research concepts into compelling proposals
• Prepare supporting proposal materials including budget narratives, letters of support, biographical sketches, and compliance documentation
• Coordinate with internal teams and external collaborators to produce polished content for joint projects and publications
• Organize figures, appendices, graphs, copyright permissions, and other materials for publication submissions
• Stay current on trends in scientific communication, publication standards, and responsible use of AI-assisted writing tools
Skills/Background Needed
• 5+ years of professional experience in scientific or technical writing, with demonstrated experience writing grant proposals, research reports, and policy documents
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a science, research, health, or related field
• Subject matter knowledge in research and policy processes
• Proven experience writing successful grant proposals for foundations and government agencies
• Experience managing or leading writing projects with multiple stakeholders in academic or research environments
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools
• Familiarity with citation management software
• Familiarity with AI-assisted research and writing tools and their responsible use
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects

Contract Length
Full-time position. This role includes a 3-month onboarding and review period.
