Role: Technical Specification Writer

About the role:
We’re looking for a Technical Specification Writer to join our team. In this role, you’ll develop and coordinate technical specifications for a variety of project types. You’ll work closely with architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure that drawings and specifications stay aligned and accurate.
Day to day, you’ll:
• Prepare project manuals and technical specifications in formats that match project requirements (full, short form, outline, or sheet format)
• Identify and resolve conflicts between drawings and specifications, coordinating solutions across project teams
• Support the development and maintenance of master specification templates across different service sectors
• Review submittals, substitutions, requests for information, and change proposals during the construction phase
• Participate in quality assurance and quality control processes to verify technical accuracy, consistency, and completeness
• Research products and building systems to evaluate materials and support specification development
This is a hybrid-flexible role, and you’ll work from home with the option to connect with your team as needed.
Skills/background needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
• Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or specification writing (we welcome candidates with 3+ years of dedicated specification experience or 5+ years in a related construction role)
• Strong knowledge of construction specifications, building systems, materials, and construction methods
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Familiarity with specification software tools (training will be provided on tools you haven’t used before)
Preferred qualifications:
• Professional certifications in construction specifications or construction documentation
• Experience with specification software platforms
