About This Role
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to create clear, user-friendly documentation for consumer electronics and wellness technology products. You’ll translate complex technical information into guides, manuals, safety instructions, and troubleshooting content that real users can understand and follow.
This is a contract position working fully remote. No experience with regulated industries is required – we’ll guide you through what you need to know.
What You’ll Do
Product Documentation
Write and maintain user manuals, quick-start guides, setup instructions, and troubleshooting materials for consumer electronics and wellness devices. You’ll create clear assembly, operation, and maintenance instructions, supported by diagrams and illustrations. You’ll develop templates to keep documentation consistent across multiple products, and work with engineering and product teams to ensure everything is accurate.
Safety & Compliance
Write safety warnings, caution statements, and hazard notices. You’ll learn about regulatory standards that apply to consumer products, and ensure all safety language and symbols meet those requirements. You’ll partner with compliance and quality teams to review and update documentation as needed.
Global Readiness
Prepare documentation for translation into multiple languages. You’ll manage different versions for different regions (Europe, Asia-Pacific, etc.) and maintain version control and revision history as products evolve.
Teamwork
Collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, and marketing to ensure documentation is accurate, compliant, and on-brand. You’ll deliver finished copy to design and packaging teams for production.
Skills & Background You’ll Need
• 5+ years writing technical documentation (user manuals, guides, safety content)
• Experience with consumer electronics, medical devices, or wellness technology products
• Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for general audiences
• Strong written English and attention to detail
• Experience with structured authoring tools (or willingness to learn)
• Familiarity with content management systems and version control
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines
Nice to Have
• Background in regulated product environments or knowledge of regulatory standards
• Degree in Technical Communication, English, or related field
• Professional certification in technical writing
• Experience with app-connected devices or Bluetooth hardware
• Previous contract or consulting work on multiple product launches
