About the role
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to create clear, user-friendly documentation for consumer products. You’ll translate complex technical information into guides, manuals, safety notices, and instructional content that real people can understand and follow.
This is a contract remote position. Full training will be provided, and we welcome candidates eager to develop their technical writing skills in a supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
Product documentation
- Write and maintain user manuals, quick-start guides, safety inserts, warning labels, and troubleshooting materials
- Create clear assembly, setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting instructions with supporting illustrations
- Develop documentation templates to ensure consistency across product ranges
- Work with engineering and product teams to ensure technical accuracy
Safety and compliance
- Write safety notices, caution statements, and warning content that meets regulatory standards
- Ensure safety symbols and hazard statements are clear and compliant
- Work with regulatory and quality teams to incorporate feedback and maintain compliance
Global readiness
- Prepare documentation for translation into multiple languages
- Maintain region-specific versions for different markets and regulatory requirements
- Manage version control and track documentation changes across product updates
Cross-team collaboration
- Deliver finished documentation to design and packaging teams
- Work with brand teams to ensure documentation matches the product’s tone and style
- Participate in product launch planning to ensure documentation is ready on time
Skills and experience needed
Essential:
- Experience writing user manuals, safety documentation, or instructional content (portfolio examples helpful)
- Familiarity with regulated product environments and compliance standards
- Experience with content management systems or version control tools
- Excellent written English with the ability to explain complex topics in simple, clear language
- Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- Proficiency in common authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker or similar platforms
Preferred:
- Background in technical communication or English
- Professional technical writing certification
- Previous experience writing for app-connected or Bluetooth devices
- Contract or consulting experience working on multiple product launches
