Technical Writer – Hardware & Manufacturing, Remote

About the Role

We’re looking for an entry-level Technical Writer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing team. You’ll create clear, accurate documentation that helps engineers, technicians, and new team members understand complex processes—from design specifications to production floor work instructions.

This is a cross-functional role where your writing directly impacts how the team builds, tests, and operates hardware. No prior experience in this specific field is required—we’ll provide full training and support as you grow into the role.

What Success Looks Like

Work instructions are so clear that technicians rarely need to ask for help. Engineering teams receive well-organized documentation on schedule with minimal revisions needed. New team members can find the information they need within minutes. Documentation standards you help create scale smoothly as the team expands.

What You’ll Do

Engineering Documentation: Support engineering teams in producing and maintaining technical documents including design specifications, test procedures, and review packages. You’ll attend design reviews, work directly with engineers to understand technical details, and translate them into clear, accurate documentation.

Work Instructions & Standard Operating Procedures: Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions, assembly procedures, and standard operating procedures to ensure technicians have clear guidance. You’ll spend time observing production processes firsthand to understand how work actually gets done.

Cross-Team Coordination: Work with engineering and manufacturing teams across different locations to keep documentation consistent, synchronized, and easy to access. Some travel between sites may be required.

Contract & Compliance Documentation: Generate and maintain documentation required for contracts, regulatory compliance, and operational standards, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

Documentation Systems: Help organize, version, and maintain technical documentation so the right people can find the right document when they need it. As an early team member, you’ll help choose and set up systems that work for your growing organization.

Process & Standards: Develop lightweight documentation templates and standards that scale as the company grows.

Skills/background needed: Ability to write clear, accurate work instructions and procedures. Comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification when requirements aren’t clear. Self-directed and able to manage multiple documentation projects at once in a fast-moving environment. Ability to work directly with technical experts and translate complex information into simple, usable documentation. Full training provided—prior technical writing experience is helpful but not required.

Preferred experience: Any background in manufacturing, assembly, engineering, or hardware development. Experience with documentation tools such as Google Workspace or similar platforms. Interest in growing into a documentation leadership or program management role as the team expands.

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Contract length: Ongoing role with potential to transition to permanent employment.

Location: Remote. Some travel to worksites may be required depending on the role.

Important Note: Depending on the location and nature of this role, you may be required to obtain security clearance or meet specific citizenship or residency requirements. Details will be discussed during the application process.
