Technical Writer – Industrial Equipment Documentation, Entry Level

We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join our team. You’ll research, develop, and produce technical documentation that supports our products before and after sale, for both customers and partners. Working from engineering records, vendor data, and hands-on examination of equipment, you’ll create operator manuals, service and repair manuals, technical information bulletins, and other documentation in a variety of formats.

Accuracy is critical—the information you produce serves as legal documentation and is relied upon directly by customers and partners in the field. You’ll work closely with engineers, vendors, service teams, legal counsel, and international colleagues, so strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. No prior technical writing experience is required; full training will be provided.

What you’ll do:

Research & Information Gathering
Research and gather illustrations, data, and information needed to develop each publication. You’ll work with engineering documentation, parts catalogs, change orders, customer requests, and CAD systems. You’ll also examine vendor materials and reuse content from previously created documents. Hands-on work includes assembling and disassembling equipment to understand parts, processes, and function. You’ll operate various equipment types to directly observe and document how they work. You’ll learn to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.

Content Development & Illustration
Edit and rewrite vendor-supplied content into our format and style. Develop technical illustrations using both raster and vector methods, and use CAD software to create vector illustrations. Assemble illustrations, descriptions, and supporting information into new publications.

Review & Publication
Route documents for review to engineering, service, training, legal, and other teams as required. Incorporate feedback and revise documents and illustrations. Prepare final documents for formatting, publication, and distribution in both print and digital formats. Create and distribute updated documentation whenever changes occur. Prioritize and schedule work to ensure timely completion. Report regularly on project status to your supervisor. Maintain and expand knowledge of product mechanics and stay current on trends in technical writing and information design. Collaborate with international colleagues. Participate in ongoing training and professional development. Travel domestically as needed to gather product information. Support content creation and editing for learning platforms. Assemble, disassemble, and operate equipment as needed. Work independently and manage projects from start to finish. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Show initiative and leadership within cross-functional teams.

Skills/background needed:

Associate’s degree in engineering or a related technical field (Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, or Engineering preferred). 2–3+ years of experience in technical writing, technical illustration, or a related field is ideal, particularly in manufacturing, industrial equipment, or automotive environments—but we’ll consider candidates with less experience who show strong potential. You should have a genuine interest in how equipment works and strong mechanical aptitude. Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, partners, internal teams, and international colleagues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign and FrameMaker), illustration software (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and TechSmith Snagit), and CAD software. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. You must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely.

Location: Local positions available.

Contract length: Full Time, Permanent

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Work environment:

This is an on-site role based at our workplace. You’ll spend approximately 70% of your time at a computer creating documentation and working with information systems. The role may require local and international travel. Gathering technical information often requires close visual examination of equipment components, including observing assembly and disassembly processes. You may be required to gain information firsthand by operating, assembling, and disassembling equipment. The workspace is climate-controlled and equipped with a standard personal computer, monitor, and general office equipment.
