About the Role:
We’re seeking a Part-Time Remote Technical Writer to develop and maintain clear, accurate documentation that supports system lifecycle, maintenance, training, and operations. You’ll work with engineers, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to transform complex technical information into usable guides for operators, maintainers, and support teams. This is a fully remote position, though you may be asked to travel occasionally for in-person project support if needed.
What You’ll Do:
• Develop, review, and update technical documentation including maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures, and technical reference materials
• Analyze technical specifications, drawings, and test results to ensure documentation accuracy
• Convert complex technical and engineering information into clear instructions for end users and support personnel
• Coordinate reviews and feedback with engineers, subject matter experts, and stakeholders
• Manage document revisions, approvals, and version control
• Prepare status reports, summaries, and action-item tracking
• Support project meetings and address urgent documentation needs
Skills/Background Needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, Communications, Business, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
• At least 3 years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, or technical product development
• Proven ability to analyze complex technical information and present it clearly and accurately
• Experience developing technical manuals, procedures, plans, or standard operating procedures
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Experience managing document revisions and approval workflows
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email collaboration tools
• Ability to prioritize multiple documents and deadlines in a part-time schedule
• Comfortable working in a remote environment with strong communication skills
Preferred Experience:
• Experience with technical publishing software such as Adobe FrameMaker or XML-authoring tools
• Familiarity with engineering drawings and technical data packages
• Experience with graphics or illustration applications
• Background supporting product acquisition, system fielding, or lifecycle support
• Experience with configuration-controlled documentation
