About this role
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join an engineering team and help turn complex system concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation. You’ll work directly with engineers and cross-functional teams to create guides, manuals, diagrams, and documentation that helps people understand and maintain sophisticated systems.
This is an embedded role, meaning you’ll work as part of the engineering team rather than in a separate documentation department. You’ll build context quickly, establish trust with engineers, and play a key role in how work gets delivered and understood.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
• Turn complex hardware, software, and network concepts into clear, accessible documentation
• Create and maintain guides including installation manuals, system architecture documentation, and data flow diagrams
• Collaborate directly with engineers, program managers, and teams across the organisation
• Help establish documentation standards and improve how knowledge is shared across teams
• Work with modern tools including collaborative platforms, version control systems, and wikis
• Enable engineering teams to work faster and more efficiently through clear, high-quality documentation
• Translate technical systems into accessible, actionable content that stakeholders can understand and act on
• Serve as a trusted partner to engineers and programme managers
Day-to-day responsibilities
• Create and maintain technical documentation including installation manuals, operation guides, maintenance procedures, security configurations, system architecture documentation, and technical diagrams
• Collaborate closely with engineers and programme teams to gather, interpret, and validate technical information
• Lead documentation efforts across multiple projects
• Establish and maintain documentation standards
• Manage and organise content across documentation tools and repositories
• Support agile development environments and evolving technical requirements
• Work directly within engineering teams, building context and establishing trust

Skills/background needed
Required:
• Experience creating technical documentation for software, hardware, or networked systems
• Strong curiosity and ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts
• Excellent writing, interviewing, and analytical skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and programme teams
• Ability to work independently and maintain deadlines
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
• Familiarity with visual design and diagramming tools
Bonus skills (not required, but helpful):
• Experience with networking, cybersecurity, or system architecture
• Familiarity with industry documentation standards
• Experience working in agile environments
• Familiarity with collaborative documentation platforms such as wikis or confluence-style tools
• Experience with version control systems
• Exposure to diagramming, CAD tools, or visual storytelling
• Experience with technical diagrams and structured documentation formats
• Comfort learning how systems work, not just documenting them
• Ability to translate engineer expertise into clear communication
