Technical Writer – Specifications & Documentation (Entry Level)

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Technical Specification Writer to join our team. You’ll work with design and construction teams to create clear, detailed technical documentation that guides the procurement, installation, and testing of building components. This is a hands-on role where you’ll translate complex design requirements into practical specifications that others can follow and implement.

What You’ll Do:

• Translate design requirements into clear technical specifications covering materials, methods, equipment, and installation procedures• Research products and systems to support material selection and design standards• Review and update technical documentation to reflect modern technology, sustainability, and resilience standards• Work with design architects and construction project managers to analyse material and system constructability• Review product substitution requests for compliance with standards• Maintain a technical resource library and coordinate with consultants• Archive project files and documentation to ensure consistency across milestones• Contribute to developing and improving document standards and best practices• Assist with internal specifications training when needed

Skills/Background Needed:

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)• 5 years of experience in architectural practice with specifications development• Strong knowledge of architectural design, building systems, construction methodology, and material application• Advanced knowledge of building envelope components and material requirements• Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate them into documents• Familiarity with sustainability and integrated design principles• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email• Experience with specifications software (such as MasterSpecs) is a plus• LEED certification or Construction Specifications Institute Certification is preferred• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Location: Philadelphia, PA (On-site, in-person role)
