We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join our engineering team! In this role, you’ll translate complex system designs, configurations, and operational procedures into clear, accurate technical documentation. You’ll work alongside engineers supporting system infrastructure and cloud environments, ensuring every system is fully documented from concept through ongoing support.
This is a hands-on writing role focused on engineering documentation. You’ll need to understand the systems well enough to operate them, then capture that knowledge in documents that operators, administrators, and stakeholders rely on every day. Full training will be provided.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Author, edit, and maintain technical manuals, operator guides, administrator guides, standard operating procedures, and deployment plans for system infrastructure and cloud-hosted systems
• Develop and maintain system design documents, configuration documentation, and architecture diagrams using industry-standard tools
• Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, standardized documentation suitable for technical and non-technical audiences
• Develop installation guides, runbooks, recovery procedures, and troubleshooting guides supporting day-to-day operations
• Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates, and review workflows
• Participate in design reviews and configuration control meetings to keep documentation current with system changes
• Verify documented procedures in lab and production environments to ensure technical accuracy
• Manage documentation within approved repositories, maintaining version control
Skills/background needed
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, IT, or technical documentation roles
• Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to explain complex material clearly to diverse audiences
• Working knowledge of Linux environments, virtualization, cloud computing, and networking concepts
• Experience creating architecture and network diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools
• Active security clearance (details will be discussed during the application process)
• Ability to work from home and communicate effectively with remote teams
Desired experience
• Relevant security certification or willingness to obtain one
• Experience documenting systems according to government documentation standards
• Familiarity with cloud environments and government cloud platforms
• Experience with configuration management tools and version control systems
• Experience with structured authoring or documentation software
