What You’ll Do
As a Technical Writer, you’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documents that outline requirements and standards for civil and environmental projects. You’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure all specifications are clear, accurate, and aligned with project expectations. Typical duties include:
• Developing technical specifications and documentation
• Reviewing and interpreting technical drawings and design guidance
• Performing quality control on deliverables
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams in meetings and correspondence
• Creating and managing project templates
• Calculating construction quantities and estimating costs
• Learning new design and documentation concepts
• Working under the guidance of experienced team members
Skills/Background Needed
• Bachelor’s degree required
• 2 years of experience in specification writing, technical writing, or a related field (or 1 year with an advanced degree)
• Professional Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) certification required
• Solid understanding of technical fundamentals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD or similar tools is helpful
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with teams
• Eagerness to learn and expand your skill set
• Valid driver’s license

Physical Demands
