Technical Writing Manager – Remote

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Writing Manager to lead our documentation strategy and team. You’ll work at the intersection of leadership and hands-on writing, mentoring a team of technical writers while creating clear, user-focused documentation that helps customers, partners, and internal teams get the most from our products.

You’ll translate complex technical information into documentation that anyone can understand—whether they’re engineers, product managers, or non-technical stakeholders. Your role combines team leadership with direct writing responsibility, and you’ll work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure documentation is integrated throughout the entire development process.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers with regular feedback and career support
• Define documentation strategy, including tool selection, style guides, and overall structure
• Act as the main connection between engineering, product management, and support teams
• Manage projects and team priorities to meet release deadlines without compromising quality
• Create and maintain documentation standards and style guides across all projects
• Oversee technical documentation workflows using version control and code-based documentation practices
• Transform complex technical information into clear, accessible documentation for different audience levels
• Write technical documentation for APIs, software development kits (SDKs), and system integrations
• Create architectural diagrams and explanations that make technical concepts understandable
• Maintain formal technical writing standards such as active voice, consistent tense, and clear structure
• Interview technical experts to fully understand products and systems
• Work daily with engineers, product managers, and architects to develop and maintain high-quality documentation
• Use data and metrics to identify which content is most useful and prioritize updates accordingly
• Optimise content for search engines and improve overall discoverability
• Maintain and regularly update all documentation systems and repositories

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
• At least 10 years writing technical documentation for software
• At least 4 years managing and leading teams
• At least 3 years working with Markdown and version control systems

Nice to have:
• 5+ years using documentation tools such as GitBook or similar platforms
• Experience writing documentation for data security or data management software
• Experience writing in Agile development environments
• Background in software development or systems architecture
• Understanding of API documentation and SDK development
